Sandoval Lake 4 Days / 3 Night

The family of sullpayky experiences will welcome you at the airport of Puerto Maldonado and we will take you through this city of the upper Amazon basin to the dock of Tambopata, here we will board a boat and begin the journey through the largest river called the Amazon River,

Here we will go downstream for 30 minutes to Sandoval Lake, where we will stop to observe the flora and fauna and take a 3 km walk to the boat channel until we cross the palm forest that leads to the open waters of this lake.

Here we head downstream for a 25-minute trip to the landing at Sandoval Lake. We will stop to watch birds and butterflies, and walk – or take a rickshaw ride – along the 3 km trail to the boat channel.

As our crew paddles back to the lodge (motors are prohibited here), we may see the surface of the lake crossed by a huge paiche, an Amazonian fish that can reach 100 kg.

Here we will have the opportunity to observe the famous Amazonian giant otters and then have lunch and then explore the western part of the lake, here it is common to hear in the forest margin the famous red-bellied macaws and blue and yellow and in particular the monkeys that have already lost their fear of humans and return to the lodge for dinner and then continue with our activity and go to observe the black caimans very common in this place,

They can measure up to 4 meters and compete with the giant otters in the fishing aspect and then observe the lake and observe the incredible Milky Way.

Today we will also have the opportunity to observe the giant otters and then observe and explain the medicinal plants since this place is practically like a hospital since the villagers know and know that is why they never use pills and also come to investigate about these plants that have the cure for almost all diseases.

We will see the Palmicho, the plant that supplies the material for the roofs of our cabins, the candelabra ginger for anti-inflammatory medicine, the historically important Chinchona, or quinine tree, whose bark has saved countless thousands of people from the agony of malaria, and numerous other vital plants.

This tour includes both wild forests and a small botanical garden devoted to the cultivation of some of these species. After lunch, we can take a break and, in the late afternoon, return by boat to the starting point for a walk through the most unspoiled and isolated forest in the area, on the northern shore of the lake, to return, perhaps, amidst the pink glow of another glorious sunset.

In the evening we can take one last opportunity to look for black caimans along the lakeshore, or take a final short walk through the night forest.
