5 DAYS / 4 NIGHTS Multi Day Hike
Moonstone Trek to Machu Picchu 5 Days, This tour is a fantastic new hike into the Sacred Valley of the Incas, this trail is not used by any other company yet! It has many features not found in other treks in the area.
Our visit will reach the area called Quillarumiyoc in Quechua or «Moonstone» in English» This is one of the most impressive carved rock huacas around Cusco. From Moonstone Trek to Machu Picchu over five days, we will follow the paths of the Incas who built an elevated route from their capital, Cusco, westward through the rugged mountain range, and filled their empire with unique and impressive temples and royal residences and storehouses.
We will take a short hike to the rare and well-preserved pre-Inca site, as well as the longest Inca canal built in the entire empire. You will see the quarry where Ollantaytambo’s stones come from.
We will appreciate the impressive views of the canyon, interactions with multiple small communities, red mountains, the Huaracondo River, quinoa, two farms, corn and potatoes, many alpacas and llamas, and impressive views of the Veronica Mountain, snow-covered glaciers, and many more natural sites.
To start the «Moonstone Trek to Machu Picchu» tour one of our guides will pick you up from your hotel. The trip will be for 1 hour until you reach the area of Quillarumiyoc (temple of the moon). This is the name of the beautiful hike. Here we will have a nutritious breakfast.
After enjoying breakfast, we will drive another 40 minutes to the trailhead, Varpiso (3,257 m / 10,682 ft). Here we will meet our muleteers and horses for assistance. We will begin the trek to Machu Picchu in 5 days.
Then we will go to this incredible and little-visited region! This segment is 3 ½ hours uphill. We then arrive at Huatta (3,924 m / 12, 870 ft), a pre-Inca site. HUATA is an important pre-Inca fortress overlooking the mountain.
Scientists continue to excavate this site dating back as far as 2,400 years to the massive fortifications of the 4th century regional development period. Here we will have lunch and a guided tour. There is sure to be time to take some photos.
After enjoying lunch we will hike for 3 ½ hours up and down. At this point, we will arrive at our overnight camp in the village of Chillipawa (3,750 m / 12,300 ft).

The beginning of the hike is uphill for 3 hours. Then we stop in a small clearing for lunch (4,438 m).
After enjoying lunch we will hike for another 1 hour to climb to the top of the mountain where we will enjoy breathtaking views. On one side, we see Cusco and Mount Ausangate (6,372 m), the highest peak of the Cordillera Vilcabamba. On the other side, we see Mount Veronica (5,882 ft / 19,096 ft) up close. Mount Veronica represents the end of the Urubamba range, and its pyramidal shape makes it especially impressive.
After taking many pictures we will resume our hike up the hill to our campsite. We will see abundant llamas, alpacas and potato farms during this two-and-a-half-hour stretch. We will then arrive at our center, Chancachuco (4,177 m / 13,700 ft), for the night,
Where we will enjoy a well-deserved and ample snack and dinner. We will appreciate impressive views of the glaciers.
glaciers of the «Huayanay» mountain.

After breakfast we will start our hike accompanied by beautiful forests, until we reach the Puncuyoc Canyon and the Silque Valley, an easy two-hour descent. We will continue along the 16 km Inca Canal, the longest Inca canal ever built. This canal was created from Chancachuco to Ollantaytambo. And we will probably see a spectacled Bea that can rarely be seen.
We will ascend for another 2 hours to Inti Punku (the Sun Gate) and visit the Inca Trail from here we will be able to see Mount Veronica (snow-capped) and part of the Sacred Valley and we will do a ceremony for the APUS (sacred mountains).
We will be able to appreciate the Inca constructions where the masons lived. You will see the «tired stones» that were ready to be pulled down the steep slope to the Vilcanota River below, but were abandoned before reaching their goal.
These stones were used to build Ollantaytambo, according to the story. You can see how a primitive type of wheel was used.
We will hike lightly for about 30 minutes until we reach our campsite, the Inca Quarry (3,525 m). Depending on the weather, we will have lunch at our center or a box lunch.
We will have the rest of the day to relax. We will have a happy hour, a great dinner and then enjoy the sunset over the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

We will have a good lunch in Ollantaytambo.
We will take a train to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, you will check into your hotel room. In the afternoon we will have time to relax, enjoy the town and visit the hot springs. Dinner will be at a nice restaurant in Machu Picchu.

Trek an isolated route with unexplored ruins, discovery at every turn, and great mountain views – an excellent introduction to high Andean trekking
The trek starts in a quiet, rural valley between Cuzco and the Sacred Valley and finishes in Ollantaytambo, only seven miles upstream from the start of the Inca Trail. It passes through seldom‐visited Andean villages, Inca and pre‐Inca ruins and heads onto a beautiful altiplano plateau surrounded by glaciated peaks. Most groups won’t encounter any other tourists for the entire trek and the combination of stunning mountain scenery and wildlife, fascinating relics and real isolation is truly rewarding.
