Inca Trail Marathon To Machu Picchu, If you have already heard about the Inca Trail, now we present this version of the Inca Trail 3 Days Marathon, as challenging as its name says. Without a doubt, this is the most special Marathon route in South America, a totally unforgettable activity!
On this hike, you will have to complete the 27 miles in just two days, and then on the third day, you will visit the «lost city» of Machu Picchu before taking the train back to the ancient capital of Cusco.
On this hike, you will discover many Inca ruins, your first view of Machu Picchu from the Inti Punku (Sun Gate) – The special prize for this hike.

Level and requirement: IMPORTANT! Challenging level! This excursion is only for people in good physical shape and well acclimatized. See notes at the beginning of the itinerary.
Spaces available: Only 500 spaces are available for this hike, so you must reserve your space several months in advance.
This expedition starts very early in the morning when we pick you up from your hotel in the morning, and we will pick you up at your hotel at 8 am. It would be advisable to skip breakfast or bring a snack from your hotel. We will make a stop in Ollantaytambo for last-minute shopping; here we will have the opportunity to have breakfast if you wish.
We will reach the area of Pisacucho (also known as kilometer 82), where our hike begins. Arriving at kilometer 82, it is necessary to have the tickets, passports and student card (if you have one).
Crossing the Urubamba River, we start our hike through a path full of cactus that grow in this area, and we will also find the Tara tree. We will go on a 6 km trail to Llactapata, the first Inca site of our trip, and where we will camp for the night (or maybe we will go to Huayllabamba, have dinner here and have a short meeting the next day and an early night.
This trekking day starts at 4 am, breakfast will be prepared at 6 am. We will begin our marathon of about 24 miles over three passes – we will reach Machu Picchu in approximately 6 to 9 hours.
We will pass through traditional villages, and have lunch at the Inca site of Llulluchapampa. From here, we will begin the steep ascent to the highest pass (the Abra de Huarmihuañusca or «dead woman» pass – Height 4200m / 13779ft). Here we will have an incredible sense of accomplishment upon reaching the summit. Here we will proceed down four 600ms (1980ft) of over 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) through very humid forest to Pacasmayo. We will continue our trek through Sayakmarka, the Classic Inca Trail. We will continue through Phuyupatamarca (which means «City in the Clouds»), and reach the third highest point of the Inca Trail (3680m).
From here we will continue our hike until we reach Wiñaywayna and finally to Inti Punku and the famous image of Machu Picchu will be in front of us. At this point we will not yet enter the ruins of Machu Picchu, but we will go down to the village of Aguas Calientes by bus (or we can also run). Where we can rest and take a shower, we will have a celebratory dinner in Aguas Calientes, in a restaurant.
We will start the day very early at 4:30 in the morning, followed by breakfast at 5 am in the hotel. We will take our bus to Machu Picchu. It will be about 25 minutes from Machu Picchu that opens at 6 in the morning.
Please be sure to bring your original passport to show the Rangers (you can get a Machu Picchu stamp on your ticket). Your guide will take you to the best places in Machu Picchu and enjoy the sunrise (depending on the weather).
Then you will have a guided tour of about two and a half hours, where you can explore Machu Picchu with your tour guide. You will also have free time to explore the site on your own. You still have the option to climb to the Puerta del Sol (an hour and a half) or the Inca Bridge (45 minutes). In the afternoon, you must take a bus to the city to enjoy your lunch. You will take an afternoon train to Ollantaytambo, where our driver will be waiting for you to transfer you back to Cusco. We will drop you off at your hotel.
