Inca Quarry Trek to Machu Picchu 4D/3N

Cusco is a land of endless beauty that would take a long time to see all the tourist attractions. And when visiting Cusco, one comes across a lot of information and tours everywhere around the central square and its surroundings. Now, in this short post, we present a simple general guide to the Inca Quarry Road that connects to Machu Picchu. Yes! And join us!

WHAT IS AN INCA QUARRY ROAD

The term quarry says it all. It is a 3-day hike through the mountains of Ollantaytambo, with the intention of visiting the sun gate or Inti punku, and of course the Inca quarries on the mountainside overlooking the Urubamba River. But besides visiting the quarries, we also visit a waterfall and other small Inca sites along the way.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE HIKE:

  • Difficulty: Moderate to difficult
  • Distance: 26 km / 16 mi
  • Duration: 2 nights camping, 3 days of trekking
  • Permits: Not required
  • Maximum elevation: 4 449mts / 14 596 ft. Kuichikasa Pass

BEST TIME TO HIKE THE INCA QUARRY TRAIL AND THE WEATHER

It is advisable to choose the dry season or the Peruvian winter, which runs approximately from May to September. The night temperature in the Andes is cold. During the day, there is a high probability of having almost the whole day sunny. Sometimes the sun’s rays can be strong and the days can be hot, but with proper clothing, hats and sunscreen, it will be more pleasant to see the distant landscapes and everything around.
