5 DAYS / 4 NIGHTS Alternative Trek
Ancascocha trek via Salkantay 5 days, This route will allow you to be away from the treks where there are many travelers and will allow you to be in contact with the local populations.
This is a true adventure specially prepared for people who love walks surrounded by natural landscapes, high Andean sites, and spectacular mountain landscapes. It is a true pilgrimage to the sacred temple of Machu Picchu, providing an unprecedented spiritual experience.
This trek route is made by very few companies, so the route is very well preserved and intact from civilization, this trek includes colorful landscapes such as Salkantay, Ancascocha, and others. In this adventure,
We will be able to see original Inka trails in the mountains. This road connected the regions of Limatambo, Mollepata, Machu Picchu, Choquekirao, Tumibamba and Chinchaysuyo. Finally, the jewel in the crown is the visit to Machu Picchu.
We will start the tour when we pick you up from your hotel and go in our private transport (2870m and approximately 3 hours), we will do some last-minute shopping. From Mollepata we continue one hour by car to Soraypampa (Alt. 3840m).
We will walk from the grazing town of Soraypampa or Challacancha. We will have lunch in Salkantaypampa. After several hours of walking, we will arrive at our camp.
Our camp for the night is located at the base of the most majestic and impressive mountains in this area, such as Salkantay (Alt. 6264m) and Humantay (Alt. 5217m). The campsite is called Pampa Japonesa (Japanese Plain) and is located at 4600m. (This is a high campground, so you need to be well acclimatized.)
After enjoying lunch we will ascend for 45 minutes until we reach our camp in Rayan (Alt. 3,700m).
To start the day we will enjoy a good breakfast that will take us through several high passes. The first is Inca Chiriaska (4959m), from where you will have views of the fantastic landscapes of the area. From here,
You will walk along an original Inca Trail until you reach the Tocto area (Alt. 4821m), where the Inca Trail heads towards Salkantay.
We will continue for another 2 hours to the Paso de Calacocha (Alt. 4667m). From here, it takes 1 hour on foot to cross Casa Cruz (Alt. 4600m), and then in an hour, we will arrive at the port of Millpo, where we will descend to our Millpo camp (Alt. 4399m). If you wish we can continue camping in Yahuarmaky. Total walking time today is 8.5-9 hours.
The walk continues for 1 hour until reaching Chusqenay (Alt. 4630m). Then in 50 minutes, we will descend to the RumiInca pass and then continue to the narrow Yahuarmaky valley, another 40-minute walk.
We will make another ascent for 1.5 hours until we reach the Aqocasa pass (Alt. 4686m). This mountain is a beautiful mountain of reddish sand, and from the top of this pass (with the help of binoculars), we will appreciate the famous Inka trail that leads to Machu Picchu.
We can also see the mountains of Salkantay, Humantay, and Huayanay, and on the way, we can see Huacaywillka (Sacred Tears). On the way enjoy visiting the archaeological site called Inka-away.
We will hike another 3 hours downhill to Inka Rakay, and then another 1.5 hours uphill to Paso Huayanay (Alt. 4630m). Then we will descend to our camp in Ancascocha, for 3 hours. (Ancascocha Camp or Laguna Ancascocha Alt. 3700m).
Total walking time today 8-9 hours.
After enjoying breakfast we will go to the Chillca area for about 5 hours. From Ancascocha it is a 2-hour descent to Arequipa.
We can enjoy the walk through local towns that preserve their traditions, accompanied by beautiful vegetation such as chachacoma, qewña, orchids, begonias and bromeliads that adorn the landscape.
The descent will be even easier until we reach Camicancha (Alt. 2930m), where our car can pick us up. (Or we will continue descending to Chilla) We take the train around 4:00 pm to Aguas Calientes, where we will enjoy a celebration dinner and spend the night in a hotel.
To take advantage of the day we will wake up very early in the morning, we will take a bus to the ruins of Machu Picchu. (Bus included in the price) so you can appreciate the sunrise from the watchman’s cabin (or Inti Punku if you get up very early).
You will then have a three-hour guided tour of Machu Picchu with your guide. After your time, you can explore the ruins on your own or climb Huayna Picchu for that classic Machu Picchu photo. It would be better if you start climbing Huayna Picchu at noon. Also, try to include a visit to the Temple of the Moon or the fabulous Inca Bridge.
We highly recommend walking from Machu Picchu to get an idea of the vegetation and the audacity of its builders. It is a 1-2 hour walk back to Machu Picchu town, or you can take the bus that is included in your ticket. Return to Cusco in the afternoon for the backpacker train (departs at 2:30 PM or 6:00 PM) and greet a driver in Ollantaytambo
